Elsewhere on the Internet: Shuttertalk

Concept: 3 out of 5
Execution: 4 out of 5
Yeah, but: I've always preferred small communities.

The Long Version: I've been around on web photography forums for nearly ten years, including several of the big ones and many small ones. I wouldn't be able to count how many it's been, but it doesn't matter because Shuttertalk is the only one I still visit.

"ST" is certainly one of the smaller boards I've known. It isn't the place to go for invitations to join award groups, earn "'attaboy!'s" from people named p!xlsmokR and golf_style99, or to find twenty new threads a day. Instead it prides itself on being a friendly forum, where most people answer to their real names, don't care if you're using a different brand of camera, and can have sensible discussions on a range of subjects. I'm happy to have it as my conversational photographic home on the internet.

For the next few days, Shuttertalk is celebrating its relaunch with new forum software by giving away some Black Rapid cameras straps. It's worth visiting – and registering – regardless, but right now is an especially good time to join.

  1. Thanks for the plug, Matthew! Certainly one of the most valued members on the forums and it's a pleasure having you around.

We love welcoming new members, so don't be afraid to stop by and say hi!

  2. Have to echo with Matthew's endorsement of ShutterTalk. I'm a member over there too and it's the only photography forum left in my bookmarks after trying many. Must admit it's been a little over a year since I've participated, but that has everything to do with personal stuff and is no way a reflection on ST's members or content.
